AM I A WARRIOR? has been a side specific video walk linking personal and social narratives. It combines the story of an art student and her father, who has cancer, with a critical examination of how war imagery has been transformed into the language of medicine through complex historical processes to this day. In the conversations between the two protagonists, the effects of these enduring language patterns on the perception, treatment, and social interpretations of illness are negotiated, and the communication and impact of power, fear, and care through language and images are examined. The walk assembles found footage, fictional scenes, interview sequences, and staged archive material, linking with the specifics of the public urban space.
